My grandson has been given a HP computer to use for his games, however, they
need DirectX to run them. I downloaded DirectX from the Microsoft site on my
PC but it wouldn't install on his computer. He has no internet on the
computer, is there any way around this, please?

You need to download the DirectX redistributable package - it's rather
large:

Thankyou Richard, I downloaded the file np also installed it OK but when I
tried the programme I received an error message telling me that I needed
DirectX 7.0?? can this be downloaded in the same format (redistributable
package).

You might want to consider skipping the DirectX install (many games will try
to install it even if a newer version is available) and see if the game
works. It should, since DirectX 9 contains all the features of DirectX 7.

The game won't run without it but I have found DirectX 8.1 redistributable
which is for Win98 so will try that version and let you know if that works.

Be sure you uninstall DirectX 9 before you try installing DirectX 8,
otherwise you may run into problems or DirectX 8 simply won't install. You
will likely need to use DirectX Eradicator from http://myappz.tk/ to do so.

Thankyou for the uninstall details, it worked fine, I was a little nervous
about it because so much adware appeared at the download site but the file
was clean and the uninstall went well, DirectX 8.1 redistributable was the
answer to the problem as it was more suitable for Win98
